Winter vacations extended by one week in Lahore due to smog

LAHORE: Poor smoggy conditions here have forced the Lahore High Court to extend the winter vacations for educational institutions by one week. Originally, the winter vacations were supposed to last from December 24 – 31.

Schools have also been ordered previously to close down on Fridays and Saturdays in a bid to keep the children safe from unrelenting smog. The LHC also thought it best to extend the vacations to mitigate the threat of smog.

PEMRA has also been requested to run awareness campaigns on TV channels regarding smog in Lahore. It is pertinent to mention here that Lahore has been struggling to battle with smog for the last 5-6 years during the winter season. While the city breathes toxic air, it is widely believed that India’s crop burning during winters is responsible for smog in Pakistan.
