US pushes again for full investigation of election irregularities in Pakistan

US demands thorough investigation of election frauds in Pakistan

WASHINGTON: The US State Department has once again called for the need of full investigation of election irregularities in Pakistan, urging the newly elected Pakistani government to ensure that all discrepancies are addressed.

While speaking to the media on Tuesday, the US State Department’s spokesperson Matthew Miller assured that the Washington was willing to extend all its support and working with Islamabad. Calling the elections competitive, he said that people voiced their opinions loudly on the polling day and that the US government would work with the new Pakistani government.

However, he said that some political parties have raised objections to the election results, hinting towards possible rigging. He made it clear that the US government wanted to ensure that all irregularities, if any, were fully investigated.

He also condemned all the government-imposed shutdowns on the social media platforms, including that of X (formerly Twitter) which remains suspended in the country since February 17.
