US Justice Department sues Elon Musk's Space X for discrimination

Washington: On Thursday, Elon Musk-owned rocket and satellite company SpaceX got sued by the US Justice Department for discriminating against refugees & asylum seekers in hiring.

In their statement, the Justice Department said the lawsuit alleges that from September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX routinely discouraged asylees & refugees from applying. It added that the Elon Musk-owned company refused to hire or consider the refugees and asylees on the basis of their citizenship status.

The US Justice Department claimed that the act is a violation of the Immigration & Nationality Act. It further added that SpaceX wrongly claimed that they could hire only US citizens and lawful permanent residents under federal regulations known as export control laws.

The department pointed out online posts as examples of discriminatory public statements. A post on X from June 2020 stated:

US law requires at least a green card to be hired at SpaceX, as rockets are advanced weapons technology.”

SpaceX and Elon Musk have not responded or commented on the lawsuit. Elon is already facing tough times regarding X app as it faces serious competition from Threads.
