UN Secretary-General reaches Pakistan for solidarity visit

ISLAMABAD: The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, has arrived in Pakistan for a two-day solidarity visit amid devastating floods across the country that took over 1,300 lives. Minister of State Hina Rabbani Khar received him from the Islamabad airport.

Upon arrival, Antonio appealed to the international community to support Pakistan as the country responds to the climate catastrophe. The handout issued by the Foreign Office stated that the UN Secretary-General would meet the leadership of Pakistan and senior officials.

During the meeting, they will discuss the national and global response to the destruction caused by the change in climate. Antonio will also visit the areas most affected by the catastrophe and foresee the humanitarian response by the UN.
