KARACHI: The anti-encroachment team of the district Central administration carried out the demolition of decade-old shops and houses in North Nazimabad, Landikotal Chowrangi. The operation was carried out under Karachi Development Authority (KDA), District Municipal Corporation and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
According to the district administration, 35 illegal shops were being demolished during the grand operation to remove encroachments from Landikotal Chowrangi. The officials added that occupants tried to stop the district central administration, and police had to intervene to disperse the protesting crowd.
However, the Karachi Bachao Tehreek (KBT) claimed that a drive has been launched against the working class. The KBT added that shopkeepers submitted the documents which stated that their plots were leased. But the authorities argued that the road in front of their shops should be 150ft and started demolishing the property.
