KARACHI: The cleanup operation at the Karachi police chief office has been completed with all five terrorists reportedly dead. According to media reports, three were killed by police while two blew themselves up.
Earlier, Karachi police chief, located at Sharea Faisal, came under attack by terrorists here on Friday evening. According to the media reports, a joint operation was carried by Karachi Police, Sindh Rangers and Pakistan Army to exterminate the terrorists.
As per the latest update, all five floors of the building have been cleared. The confrontation lasted nearly five hours. Speaking to media, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that it was too early to report the correct number of casualties.
The initial report of firing at the station emerged at around 7:15PM – a time when Sharea Faisal witnesses the peak traffic hours. According to the police officials, the number of armed terrorists is estimated to be at around 8-10.
Other law enforcement agencies have been called to the site to help the police officials with the operation. Sharea Faisal has been closed for traffic. According to the police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed, four dead bodies and 14 injured personnel have bene brought till now.
It is also pertinent to mention here that the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed the responsibility of the attack.
SANAULLAH’S ABSURD REMARKS
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah doubled down on the government’s non-serious attitude towards its citizen by making absolutely absurd remarks regarding the security situation in Karachi. While speaking to Geo News, the minister said that the government had never thought that the terrorists could have access to other provinces than Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
He briefed the media that six to eight attackers had entered the building armed with hand grenades and guns and attacked the station. According to him, an operation was still ongoing with the attackers facing resistance from the law officials on the third floor of the building.
One police official while speaking from inside the building told the media that they did not have contact with anyone outside the building and they were left stranded in it with the attackers opening blind fire.
PSL MATCHES
It is pertinent to mention here that the KPC office is located merely minutes away from where the Pakistan Super League teams are staying. It is yet to be seen whether the PSL match will be played as the National Bank Cricket Arena as per schedule or will it be postponed. It is also yet to be determined whether the overseas players will choose to stay in Pakistan or opt to fly back to their countries.
Fans and journalists on social media have started calling for the postponement of the tournament as many are fearing that a slip up in the security could result in Pakistan cricket getting isolated forever.
