Swvl has become the latest entrant in the long list of startups that have had to suspend their operations owing to rapidly rising petroleum prices. According to a statement by the ride-hailing app, the company was pausing its Daily Rides in the cities of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Faisalabad from tomorrow.
However, the company has clarified that the intercity operations will continue. Some Pakistani tech startups have had to let go of up to 30 per cent of their staff members owing to their inability to operate during such tough economic times.
Many users reported receiving an in-app notification from Swvl alerting them regarding the suspension of the operations from Friday, June 3.
