Suicide blast rocks Islamabad; one policeman confirmed dead

ISLAMABAD: The capital of the country was rocked with a suicide blast here on Friday when a car was signalled by the police to stop at a checkpoint. According to the Islamabad police, one policeman has embraced martyrdom in the blast.

Four other policemen and two civilians were left injured in the blast. The area has been sealed by the Islamabad police and security remains on high alert in the twin cities. According to the briefing by the police, a car with a couple onboard was stopped on suspicion by the policemen on duty.

The couple stepped out, however, the man went back to the car on the pretext of something before detonating himself. According to the police spokesperson, the capital has been saved from a deadly and a devastating suicide blast.

It is pertinent to mention here that the country is undergoing a fresh wave of terrorist attacks after the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan decided to end the ceasefire last month.
