South Korea successfully launches its first space rocket

SEOUL: Despite launching the first space rocket successfully, South Korea failed to put the payload in the orbit on Thursday.

The space vehicle named ‘Nuri’ was launched from the southern coast of Goheung. According to President Moon Jae-in, the payload separated successfully at a 700-kilometre altitude. But the target to put the payload in orbit was not achieved.

The president however believes that they have made substantial gains despite the failed attempt. He said that soon the country will be home to leading world space technology.

Till now only six nations have been successful in the launching of a one-tonne payload through self-manufactured rockets.
