Snapchat introduces new sound features for their Snaps and Stories

Snapchat introduces new sound features to make content creation easier

Snapchat today announced that it is introducing two new features to its Sounds product, allowing users to add clips of licensed songs, TV and movie clips, as well as their own original audio files to their Snaps and Stories.

The company is rolling out a feature that aims to allow users to find relevant sounds that complement a goal. Now, when you apply a Lens to a photo or video, you can tap the Sounds icon to access a list of relevant sounds to add to your Snap. The new feature will be rolling out globally on iOS and Android.

Snapchat is also introducing a feature that allows users to create montage videos that are automatically beat to audio tracks from the Sounds library. Users can select between 4 and 20 photos/videos from their camera roll. The feature is rolling out globally on iOS and is coming to Android in March.

“By expanding the Sounds experience, Snapchat makes it easier and faster for Snapchatters to discover and share the music they love with friends,” Manny Adler, Snap’s chief music strategist, said in a statement. “Snapchat has also created a unique opportunity for artists to reach valuable and engaged audiences while allowing fans to listen to the full song on streaming services.”

The company claims that since Sounds launched in 2020, videos made with music from Sounds on Snapchat have generated over 2.7 billion videos created and over 183 billion total views.

The launch comes as Snapchat recently announced that it has grown to over 750 million monthly active users. The company said it sees a way to reach more than a billion people over the next two to three years.
