Sikh community awaits reopening of Kartarpur Corridor by India

Kartarpur

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has urged India to allow the Sikh pilgrims to travel through the Kartarpur Corridor to attend the holy occasion of Baba Guru Nanak’s birthday celebrations from November 17-26.

Last year the corridor was closed on March 16 due to the Covid outbreak. Pakistan had, however, expressed its eagerness to reopen the corridor on June 27 last, only for the Indian government to not respond to the call.

In an official statement, Islamabad stated that the Pakistani government hoped New Delhi would allow Sikh devotees to travel to the temple for the spiritual tour.

Despite multiple calls by the Sikh community for the reopening of the corridor, India has not made any decision yet.

Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the corridor in November 2019 on the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, in which the newly constructed Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur was presented as a gift to the entire Sikh community of the world.
