Medical test ordered by SHC to ascertain Dua Zehra’s age; sends teenager to shelter home

KARACHI: On Monday, the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered to send Dua Zehra to a shelter home. The court has also directed the authorities concerned to carry out a medical test so that her age could be determined. Dua Zehra had gone missing in April from Shah Faisal Colony.

In her statement, Dua said that she was not kidnapped and married Zaheer of free will. She added that her age was 18 years and wanted to live with her husband. But her father, Mehdi Kazmi, claimed that according to the birth certificate, his daughter was 14 years old as she was born on April 27, 2008.

Justice Ghaffar said that the petition related to Dua’s recovery has now become redundant. Dua’s parents asked the court for permission to meet their daughter for 10 minutes, but the girl refused to do so. Justice Ghaffar said that they had to follow the law. He added that they realised the parents were worried, but the daughter herself had refused to meet them.
