Shaheen wins ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award

DUBAI: Pakistan Cricket is over the moon as it celebrates its fourth ICC Award in just two days. Pakistan’s lead pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year on Monday.

To put into context as to how big these wins are, it is worth noting that Pakistan Cricket had bagged only three awards since the inception of the ICC awards 16 years ago. Pakistan Cricket has now won four in just two consecutive days.

Shaheen was rewarded for his menacing bowling spells during the year 2021 – one of which came against the arch rivals India at the T20 World Cup. In a year that saw great success for the Southpaw, Shaheen also had some moments that he would like to forget.

The left-arm pacer took 78 wickets in 36 games at a bowling average of 22.20. With Shaheen winning the award, all four Pakistan nominated players have now won the award in their respective categories.
