ISLAMABAD: According to the Secretariat of Senate, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Senator Ayub Afridi has resigned from his position. He submitted his resignation to Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani via video link wherein he said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had told him to submit his resignation.
“He [PM Imran] told me to wait due to the joint session [of parliament] and after that he told me to resign. This [seat] was entrusted to me by the party and the prime minister and I happily returned it,” said the former senator.
On the question of being assigned any new role, the ex-senator said that any decision made by the prime minister would be acceptable to him.
According to some media reports, Afridi has been asked to resign in order to facilitate Shaukat Tarin’s election as finance minister.
