Rabbani raises questions over Pakistan’s eagerness to help Afghan Taliban

ISLAMABAD: Former Senate chairman and one of the leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani raised questions in a senate session on Friday as to why the federal government was so eager to help out the Afghan Taliban when the border was not even recognised officially by them.

Referring to the recent incident, where the Pakistani military troops were stopped by the Taliban from erecting security forces, the Senator demanded of the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to come forward and brief the parliament.

The Pakistani officials are yet to comment on the incident. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Afghan defence ministry claimed that the situation was now normal between the two states. He had also termed the fencing of the area as “illegal”.

The Durand Line, most of which has already been fenced by Pakistan, has long remained a subject of debate between Afghanistan and Pakistan with the former maintaining that it does not recognise the demarcation done by the British Raj.
