ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi released a statement on the banning of hijab in India. He said that depriving anyone of their fundamental rights was oppressive.

After the viral video of Muskan Khan, a student of Karnataka being heckled by a Hindutva mob, the foreign minister issued the statement. He condemned the ban on the hijab and urged human rights representatives to support Muslim female students.

Qureshi added that rising Islamophobia against the Muslims in Palestine, Kashmir and other regions would be discussed in the 48th meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Meanwhile, The New York Times also covered the viral issue as they stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Indian leaders have gone silent while genocide and violence have surged against the Muslims of India.
