ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has received the summary from General Headquarters (GHQ) for the appointment of the new chief of army staff (COAS) and Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC). The news was first shared by the DG ISPR and then confirmed by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif through official Twitter handles.
GHQ has forwarded the summary for Selection of CJCSC and COAS, containing names of 6 senior most Lt Gens to MoD.

COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Chairman Joint CJCSC Nadeem Raza will retire from their positions by the end of November. According to a statement by the spokesperson of the GHQ, the list contains six names of senior lieutenant generals. Media reports claim that the six names on the list are:
- Lt Gen Asim Munir (Quarter Master General)
- Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza (Commander 10 Corps)
- Lt Gen Azhar Abbas (Chief of General Staff)
- Lt Gen Nauman Mehmood (President of NDU)
- Lt Gen Faiz Hamid (Commander Bahawalpur Corps)
- Lt Gen Mohammad Amir (Commander Gujranwala Corps)
As per the process, the prime minister of Pakistan will appoint the four-star general. Once the name is finalised by the PM, the president of Pakistan will give the formal approval of the candidate for the COAS position.
