Presidential candidate Mahmood Achakzai writes to ECP to postpone elections

The Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai has written to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to postpone the presidential elections on grounds of the incomplete electoral college.

In his letter, Achakzai argued that the required electoral college needed to elect the new president was incomplete and there existed some vacant seats – both in the national and the provincial assemblies. According to the contents of the letter: “[…] If the presidential election is conducted as per the schedule that would be denial of their votes, which otherwise is against the fundamental rights, law and Constitution.”

Achakzai argued in his letter that the election was not possible without the complete electoral college and the latter could not be completed without the election of the members on the reserved seats.

Achakzai has demanded of the ECP to either delay or postpone the presidential elections until all the legal processes were fully completed.
