President Zardari notifies removal of ex-judge Mazahar Naqvi as SC’s judge

LAHORE: Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi has been removed as the judge of the Supreme Court following the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari on the recommendations of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice Naqvi has been removed from the office after being found guilty of misconduct.

“The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is pleased to remove Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi (formerly, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan) from his office for being guilty of misconduct, effective from 10th January, 2024,” reads the notification.

Naqvi has been in hot waters since last year when references against him were filed before the SJC vis-a-vis an alleged audio leak. He had initially challenged the petitions but has since then resigned from his post early this year when proceedings against him sped up.
