PPP and Dost Mazari follow coalition government, boycott Supreme Court proceedings

After a boycott by the federal government of the Supreme Court proceedings, the lawyers of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari have boycotted the proceedings of the apex court.

Farooq H. Naik (PPP lawyer) and Irfan Qadir (Dost Mazari’s lawyer) arrived at SC to attend the hearing. Upon reaching the court, Qadir commented that Mazari had not boycotted the hearing. But soon changed his mind and informed the court that his client won’t take part in hearings.

The legal team of the government has decided to file a review petition on the court’s denial to form a full court bench.

SC resumed the hearing regarding the elections held for the re-appointment of chief minister Punjab. Earlier, the SC had rejected the plea for the full court bench by the federal government. Further, the coalition government has announced to boycott the proceedings, and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf said it won’t allow anyone to blackmail the apex court.

Today, a three-member bench started the case proceedings. Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial is heading the bench, while Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar are members of the bench.
