Police apprehend man for sexually assaulting eight-year-old girl in Mansehra

Authorities in Mansehra have apprehended a 64-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl, following an incident reported a day earlier. Mansehra District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Gandapur confirmed the arrest to Dawn.com and the filing of a first information report (FIR) against the accused at the Garhi Habibullah police station.

In a video statement, DPO Gandapur underscored the severity of the alleged crime, stating that the suspect had been arrested under the Child Protection Act. He emphasised the meticulousness of the investigation, revealing the formation of a special investigation team and his personal oversight of the case.

Expressing solidarity with the victim’s family, DPO Gandapur assured them of the authorities’ commitment to ensuring justice. He personally visited the victim in the hospital, offering reassurance and pledging strict adherence to legal protocols in prosecuting the accused.

To ensure a comprehensive investigation, the DPO directed the deputy superintendent of police, the Garhi Habibullah station house officer, and the assigned investigating officer to diligently pursue all leads and handle the case with utmost seriousness.

Recognising the trauma inflicted upon the victim, DPO Gandapur mandated the Victim Support Service Team Mansehra to provide both medical aid and psychological support to the girl.
