Amid the spread of a new Omicron variant BA.2.12.1, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to re-activate the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC). Earlier on Monday, the National Institute of Health (NIH) reported the first case of the new sub-variant.

The NCOC was formally closed after the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted from the country, and the ratio of the positive cases dropped exponentially. But after the Omicron sub-variant, BA.2.12, has been identified in Pakistan, an alarming situation has occurred. The variant has rapidly spread in the United States and has been reported in 13 countries. According to health officials, the variant spreads at a quicker rate in comparison to the previous form of Omicron.
