PM laments again about inviting ‘convict’ Nawaz to speak alongside judges

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan did not shy away again from expressing his annoyance over inviting the convicted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to speak alongside honourable judges at the Asma Jahangir Conference in Lahore last week.

He said that a culture of normalising theft was developed in the country which was why a thief, who was convicted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2017, was asked to appear at the conference as chief guest. Although he did not name Sharif explicitly, he did not make any effort to imply that he was talking about someone else.

He made the comments following the inauguration of an academic block of Al-Qadir University in Jhelum district. He also said that the nation’s ‘moral fabric’ becomes questionable when it stops identifying corruption as immoral.
