KARACHI: After a gap of five years, direct flights to Iran were resumed by the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The step is in line with the mission of helping the tourism industry grow.

PK-119 carried 165 passengers on a direct flight to Mashhad. The spokesperson for PIA Abdullah Khan said that the flight left from Lahore on Wednesday, adding that Saturday onwards, direct flights would depart from Karachi. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PIA Arshad Malik commented that the decision would facilitate people and would enable them to visit the holy sites in Iran.

Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Mohammad Ali Hosseini tweeted that both countries would work to promote the air cooperation. PIA also started flights to Fujairah (UAE) from three cities. PK-243 was the first flight to carry 296 passengers to Fujairah from Lahore.
