The petroleum ministry has warned of a gas shortfall during the winter season. The shortage will highly affect the cement sector, fertilizer industry, and C.N.G sector. Subsequently, general consumers might also face trouble with cooking and operating heating appliances.
According to the petroleum ministry, the demand of Sui Southern Gas Company reaches 1200 MMCFD, and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines require 2000 MMCDF. This condition will create a shortfall of 700 MMCDF in Sui Northern and 300 MMCDF in Sui Southern.
The ministry added that to control the gas crisis, nine cargoes of LNG will be imported by January.
