Pervaiz Elahi files petition against de-notification order

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab and ally of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has moved to the Lahore High Court (LHC) and filed a petition to challenge the de-notification from Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman. In the petition, Pervaiz Elahi requested LHC to declare the de-notification illegal.

The petition briefed that Speaker of Punjab Assembly Sibtain Khan did not summon the session for the vote of confidence as a session was already in order. Pervaiz Elahi stated that the chief minister could not be held accountable for the actions of the speaker.

Earlier, Governor Punjab had de-notified Pervaiz Elahi in the late hours of Thursday. The notification said that in the line of rule 22(7) mentioned in the Rules of Provincial Assembly Procedure 1997, the CM Punjab has lost the confidence of the majority and ceases to hold office with immediate effect.
