The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently engaged in discussions with West Indian cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards to bring him on board as a mentor for the upcoming ICC World T20 tournaments.
Insiders from the PCB have disclosed that negotiations with Sir Vivian Richards are ongoing. The board is particularly keen on leveraging Richards’ vast experience and cricketing wisdom, which they believe will be invaluable during the T20 World Cup, especially given the tournament’s West Indies leg.
Sir Vivian Richards, known for his illustrious career and tactical acumen, has previously demonstrated his mentoring prowess with the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). His successful tenure with the Gladiators has made a strong impression on the PCB, motivating them to pursue his mentorship for the national team.
However, the PCB faces a significant challenge in securing Richards’ mentorship due to his pre-existing media commitments during the World T20. Despite this obstacle, the board remains optimistic and is actively seeking solutions to reconcile his schedule with the tournament’s demands. Their determination underscores the value they place on having Richards’ guidance for the Pakistani squad.
A PCB official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “We recognise the immense benefits Sir Vivian Richards can bring to our team, particularly with his deep understanding of the game and his experience in high-pressure situations. We are committed to finding a way to incorporate his mentorship despite the scheduling conflicts.”
