PCB and CA downplay social media threat issued to Australian player’s family

KARACHI: Twitter was lit on fire in Pakistan on Monday when a journalist Yusra Askari shared the screenshots of a threat issued to the family members of an Australian Test player, Ashton Agar. According to the tweet, the source of the threat traces back to India.

An Instagram account, handled from India, had issued fake threat to the wife of Agar, hoping to derail the tour. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board issued a statement in response, stating that Cricket Australia was aware of the post circulating on social media and the PCB, CA and the governments’ security agencies had investigated the contents of the threat.

“There are extensive security plans in place for this type of social media activity, which, in this case, is not considered a risk. No further comment will be made at this time,” further read the statement.
