Pakistan is prepared to handle new coronavirus variant, says NCOC

ISLAMABAD: During a session headed by the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lt Gen Inam Haider, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said they are prepared to cope with the new coronavirus variant.

The session was also attended by the representatives of NIH Islamabad. NCOC said Intensive Care Units (ICU) across the country are fully functional, and surveillance at airports has been increased.

During the session, NCOC predicted that Pakistan was not under the threat of Covid-19 BF.7 variant and 90 per cent of the population had been vaccinated. However, the NCOC pointed out that if anyone contracted a new coronavirus variant they would experience pain in the upper respiratory system, but the virus would be easy to control.

NDMA has directed to make sure that all hospitals have a supply of oxygen, anti-viral medicines, and ventilators.
