‘Pakistan does not have the luxury to detach itself from matters in Afghanistan’

Moeed Yusuf

ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser (NSA) Moeed Yusuf, while addressing the press conference here on Tuesday, said that Pakistan did not have the luxury to disengage with Afghanistan. The adviser was attending a commission meeting in which Pakistan signed a protocol with Uzbekistan related to the Establishment of Joint Security Commission.

He explained that the engagement Pakistan has with Afghanistan is not based on any political agenda but to tackle the humanitarian crisis in the neighbouring country.

“This is not a matter of the Taliban or some other government but of the ordinary Afghans,” said Yusuf.

He highlighted that Pakistan was the most vulnerable state and could bear the brunt of the fallout in Afghanistan, hence it was also a matter of the country’s national security too.

“It is our right as Pakistan to remind the world about this,” added Yusuf.

The NSA said that Uzbekistan shares the same point of view regarding the Afghanistan issue. The two sides had a detailed discussion in the meeting on matters pertaining to Afghanistan.
