Pakistan and China agree to strengthen mutual relations

On Sunday, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and President of China Xi Jinping vowed to strengthen the economic, diplomatic, and mutual strategic relations.

During the four-day tour, Mr Khan met the premier of China, the chairman National Development & Reform Commission of China, and leaders of various countries. Mr Xi also held a formal lunch, attended by all visiting leaders from several countries.

Mr Khan had an in-depth conversation with investors and leaders during the visit and attended the Beijing Winter Olympics’ opening ceremony. Pakistan and China finalised several agreements on development in the industrial areas, trade, science & technology, infrastructure, and socio-economic well being.

Mr Khan later tweeted about the tour and said that the two sides have agreed to enhance the economic and strategic relations and accelerate the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s (CPEC) second phase.

China affirmed its support to Pakistan in strengthening its sovereignty and security. In return, Pakistan agreed to back the one-China policy and support the state in Tibet, Hong Kong, the South China Sea, and Taiwan.

Mr Khan and President Jinping last met in October 2019 during the former’s visit to China. Mr Khan and his delegation have returned to Islamabad after completing the tour.
