Over 100 names removed from ECL by new coalition government

ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, the new coalition government led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) decided to remove the names of several politicians from the Exit Control List (ECL) who had been placed in the first place owing to serious corruption charges.

A committee chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was formed on Wednesday for the Exit Control List (ECL), which decided to restrict the use of the list and only place names when necessary. Few important names removed from ECL included PM Shehbaz Sharif, Faryal Talpur, former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former President Asif Ali Zardari, Khawaja Asif, Saad Rafique, and current Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.

More than 100 names have been taken off of the ECL earlier recommended by National Accountability Bureau and Federal Investigation Agency. The names instructed by security institutes and courts will remain on the list.
