ISLAMABAD: Opposition lambasted the government in Senate and National Assembly on Friday over the recent price hikes. The ppposition members criticised the Prime Minister Imran Khan for calling them “thieves” and “looters” when they were forced to take similar measures that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government has undertaken.
Shortly after the proceedings began, the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate House, Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani said that various members of the opposition would like to speak. Many a members called out the federal government for criticising them in the past for doing the same things that it is doing at the moment.
Opposition staged a walkout in the Senate House to register its protest against the government for hiking the prices of basic essentials. According to some media reports, the opposition members kept chanting “sugar thieves” and “flour thieves”.
Meanwhile, the opposition members kept chanting “shame, shame” during the National Assembly session. Some members are said to have held placards in hands, asking the government to immediately revert the hiked petroleum prices.
The opposition did not only seek explanation from the government over the increased prices of sugar and wheat but also took the government to cleaners for not making the details of the deal with Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) public.
