First case of Omicron officially confirmed in Pakistan

KARACHI: On Monday, Pakistan confirmed the first case of Omicron by using gene-sequencing at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH). According to AKUH, the patient is recovering, and no further cases are reported.

The National Command and Operation Centre confirmed the news through its Twitter handle, stating that further monitoring was in process.

Sindh government reported the case on December 8. Health Minister of Sindh Dr Azra Pechuho said that the virus was identified in unvaccinated woman aged 57.

The condition of Covid-19, however, is getting better in the country as Pakistan reported less than 300 cases for the last two days. In the last 24 hours, 39,387 tests were conducted, resulting in 244 positive cases and a positivity ratio of 0.61 per cent. Six patients died from the virus, while 731 are still in critical care.
