In a shocking incident, a newlywed girl who had contracted a court marriage was found burnt alive near a filling station in Chak 50/4-R, Haroonabad. The victim, 19-year-old Saba Iqbal, had married Ali Raza about eight months ago.
An FIR registered at the Haroonabad City Police Station details the tragic events. Saba, originally from Faqirwali, had married Ali Raza of Habib Town willingly. However, the marriage quickly turned abusive, with Ali accusing Saba of engaging in immoral activities.
On July 28, Ali informed Saba’s family that she had left their home in anger following an argument and had been missing since then. The following day, Saba’s charred body was discovered in a field.
According to the FIR, Ali Raza confessed to his in-laws that he had burnt Saba alive. A case has been registered against him and unidentified accomplices.
Police sources revealed that Ali had grown increasingly suspicious of Saba, believing she was involved with other men. On the day of the murder, he brutally beat her before setting her on fire and discarding her body in a field. Initial police investigations indicate that Ali’s sister and brother-in-law were also implicated in the crime.
The police are continuing to interrogate Ali, who has claimed that he killed Saba in an act of so-called “honour.” This case has drawn widespread condemnation and highlights the persistent issue of honour-based violence in the region.
Authorities are under pressure to ensure a thorough investigation and swift justice for Saba, whose life was tragically cut short in an act of extreme brutality.
