New COAS will be appointed by November 26, says Defence Minister Khawaja Asif

While talking to a private news channel, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed the appointment date of the new army chief. According to Khawaja Asif, the notification for the appointment of a new chief of army staff (COAS) will be issued by November 26. The notification will be coming three days before the retirement of General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Khawaja Asif briefed that the process was underway, and the prime minister had sought the names for the next COAS in a letter to Defence Ministry. He also commented on the political chaos created over the selection of new COAS and said political leaders need to sit together so that the matter could not be politicised again.

Earlier in the National Assembly session, Khawaja Asif had lashed out at Imran Khan for damaging the honour of the army. He said that Imran made the neutral stance of the institution a curse, a reference to the events of no-confidence motion.
