ISLAMABAD: As the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government starts the process of the appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff today, it hopes that President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi would ensure that the process remains smooth and hurdle-free.
The current army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa is set to retire on November 29 and has repeatedly ruled out the possibility of getting an extension, stating that he would want to hand over the reins of the army to other candidate. It is understood that the new army chief will be appointed before November 27 when one of the other candidates is set to retire.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the new army chief would be appointed by early or mid this week. It is understood that General Asim Munir is going to be appointed as the next army chief.
