Musarrat Cheema appeals to govt to end ‘cruelty and repression’

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Musarrat Cheema has pleaded to the federal government to end cruelty and repression on the country’s citizens by ending the political sentences of people imprisoned for ‘bogus May 9’ cases.

“In the bogus cases of May 9, hundreds of Pakistanis who have been unjustly imprisoned for more than ten months are being subjected to the worst cruelty, even the sick people are being forced to work despite fasting by flouting human rights. There is no example in the history of this type of cruelty and injustice by political prisoners, the lives of thousands of families have been destroyed. It is our plea that this kind of cruelty and repression from our own citizens should stop now, the improvement of the country lies in this,” she wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

It is pertinent to mention here that the PTI and the powers that be have been at a loggerheads since the PTI-led government was removed from power via a vote of no-confidence from the then-opposition led by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). PTI has had its workers jailed and sentenced after they participated in the now infamous May 9 riots.
