MQM-P may support joint opposition on no-confidence motion

KARACHI: The joint opposition and Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) had a late-night meeting that may decide the government’s fate, just a few days ahead of the no-confidence motion. MQM-P will make an official announcement about their decision by 4:00pm today.

Opposition leaders Murad Ali Shah (Chief Minister Sindh), Akhtar Mengal, Ayaz Sadiq, Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, and Khawaja Asif represented the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to negotiate with the senior leadership of MQM-P.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari claimed that MQM-P and the opposition had finalised the agreement. He added that an official decision would be announced today.

Faisal Subzwari, Senator from MQM-P, tweeted that an agreement had been framed with joint opposition and would be announced by 4:00pm on Wednesday.

PDM has the support of 169 MNAs after the Balochistan Awami Party parted ways with the government. MQM-P has seven National Assembly members. With them joining the other ranks, the joint opposition will have 176 members against 164 MNAs of the incumbent government.
