After much furor, Lt-Gen Faiz Hamid opts for early retirement

ISLAMABAD: According to a news report by DawnNewsTV, Lt-Gen Faiz Hamid has sent his resignation to the higher-ups, opting for early retirement. He was one of the candidates nominated for the coveted post of the Chief of the Army Staff.

Gen Faiz Hamid was currently serving as Bahawalpur corps commander and has remained the Director-General (DG) of the top spy force of the country – the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) in the past. According to various reports, his resignation has been accepted.

However, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) remains tight lipped over the matter. Gen Faiz Hamid had become a controversial figure towards the twilight stages of his career with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz blaming him for supporting the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led government and for playing a crucial role in the conviction of the two.
