Abducted Lt. Col. Laiq Baig Mirza martyred during rescue operation

QUETTA: Lieutenant Colonel Laiq Baig Mirza, abducted between July 12 and 13, was martyred during the rescue operation. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the unfortunate news on Thursday.

According to the details, Laiq Baig Mirza was travelling with his family near Ziarat when a group of militants stopped them. Around 10-12 terrorists abducted Laiq Baig and his cousin Umar Javed while other family members remained safe. The Quick Response Force (QRF) traced the militants at Mangi Dam and conducted the rescue operation between 13 and 14 July.

During the operation, though army forces shot down two terrorists, they were unable to safely rescue Laiq Baig. The remaining terrorists martyred the Lieutenant and successfully escaped with Umar Javed.

The Public Relations wing of the army said that the search operation had been initiated to recover Umar. Chief Minister Balochistan Abdul Quddus Bizenjo expressed sorrow at the incident.
