The Lahore High Court (LHC) has prohibited the issuance of e-challans by the Safe Cities Authority. The case was put forward by advocate Saleem Sheikh, while Justice Tariq Saleem gave the final verdict.
According to the ruling, the Provincial Vehicles Ordinance of 1965 does not allow traffic police to issue e-challans. It added that a driver should be fined right on the spot, but no fine could be imposed by digital means.
For the past year, the law authorities had reservations about the e-challan’s validity as it was imposed on the owner of the vehicle.
