Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly dissolved after Governor Haji Ghulam Ali’s approval

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly stands dissolved following the signatures of Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali on Wednesday. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan forwarded the summary to the Governor on Tuesday to dissolve the assembly under Article 112 (1).

The assembly would have stood dissolved automatically even if the governor hadn’t signed the summary within the 48-hour window.

While talking to the media, Chief Minister Mehmood Khan said that the decision to dissolve the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was taken in the interest of Pakistan. As per the constitution, Mehmood Khan will continue his duties until the caretaker chief minister takes the oath.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was formed after the general elections on July 25, 2018. The members took the oath on August 13, 2018. The assembly’s term was supposed to end on August 12, 2023. But the current political scenario has pushed the provincial assembly to be dissolved after four years and five months.
