Karachi receives relief from scorching heat with light drizzle

After enduring two of the hottest nights on July 16 and 17, Karachi residents finally experienced some relief as light drizzle brought a welcome change to the city’s sweltering weather. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that light showers occurred in several areas, including Scheme 33, Sohrab Goth, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Saddar, Tower, and I.I. Chundrigar Road, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures and more pleasant conditions.

Current weather conditions and forecast

The PMD has forecasted additional light drizzle for this evening and night, with the maximum temperature anticipated to reach 36°C. Presently, the temperature stands at 33°C, but due to the high humidity level of 74 per cent, it feels more like 38°C. Winds from the southwest are blowing at a speed of 17 km/h, contributing to the slight cooling effect observed in the city.

Recent temperature trends

In the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded was 30.5°C. Despite the light showers, the weather in Karachi is expected to remain hot and humid over the next day, as the city continues to navigate the peak of its summer season.

Impact on residents

The light drizzle has brought much-needed relief to Karachi’s residents, who have been coping with intense heat and humidity. The cooler weather, even if temporary, is a welcome respite from the oppressive conditions experienced earlier in the week.

The PMD’s forecast of more light drizzle offers hope for continued relief, but residents are advised to remain prepared for hot and humid conditions. The city’s weather pattern underscores the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.
