Karachi lashes out at authorities on miserable load-shedding

KARACHI: Load-shedding has forced the citizens of Karachi to take to the streets to protest against the government and K-electric. Currently, several areas are facing heavy load-shedding. Hijrat Colony, Sultanabad, Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Johar and several other parts of Karachi are facing power outages.

The protestors blocked the MT Khan Road and PIDC bridge, causing a traffic jam. Slogans were raised against the authorities on prolonged power-cuts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while addressing lawmakers, said that load-shedding might increase in the upcoming month. He pointed out that the rise in oil and gas prices in the international could cause more load-shedding in July.

Mr Sharif also defended his decision of super-tax by saying that first-time rich people have been subjected to taxes. He termed the demands by IMF as ‘bitter conditions’. He added that Pakistan and IMF would soon finalise the deal.
