Israel launches air strikes on Gaza amid escalating tensions with Iran

In a flurry of overnight operations, Israel initiated numerous airstrikes on Gaza, as confirmed by Hamas, amidst heightened regional tensions following an unprecedented attack attributed to Iran. The strikes come as the Israeli military emphasises its commitment to addressing the conflict with Hamas.

Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari pointed out the nation’s unwavering focus on its critical mission in Gaza, particularly concerning the rescue of hostages allegedly held by Hamas, whom Israel perceives as a proxy of Iran.

“Even while under attack from Iran, we have not lost sight, not for one moment, of our critical mission in Gaza to rescue our hostages from the hands of Iran’s proxy Hamas,” stated Rear Admiral Hagari during a briefing.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Hagari reiterated Israel’s determination to secure the release of hostages, including those purportedly held in Rafah. The military spokesman emphasised the nation’s resolve to utilise all available resources to ensure the safe return of these individuals to their families.

In response to the escalating tensions, the Israeli army announced the mobilisation of approximately two reserve brigades for operational activities on the Gaza front. The move comes after a recent withdrawal of ground troops from the said territory.
