Internet projects for under-served areas approved by USF

ISLAMABAD: A total of 10 projects of high-speed internet and optical fibre for under-served areas of Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab were approved by The Universal Service Fund (USF).

The decision was made during the meeting of the USF board of directors. Federal Minister for Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque advised the projects worth Rs11 billion that will serve more than 4.4 million consumers.

Chairman USF Board Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput said that 37 projects were contracted in the last two years, and further, 28 projects are in planning. He added that these projects were the result of efforts made by the IT minister to accomplish the prime minister’s aim of Digital Pakistan.
