Imran Khan ousted from power; loses no-confidence vote

ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan has become the first prime minister in Pakistan’s history to have been ousted from the power after losing the no-confidence vote in the parliament. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ayaz Sadiq chaired the session after Speaker Assembly Asad Qaiser and Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri resigned from their posts.

Earlier in the day, the national assembly session was adjourned on a few occasions on several pretenses. The politically charged day saw high activity with the Supreme Court, Islamabad High Court, Election Commission of Pakistan, DG ISI and Army COAS springing into action.

Mr Khan had earlier decided to declassify the diplomatic cable that his government had received from the United States. The President of PML-N Shehbaz Sharif is likely to replace Mr Khan as the country’s prime minister.
