LAHORE: On Monday, Chief Minister Punjab Hamza Shehbaz responded to Lahore High Court (LHC) against the petitions on his appointment as CM Punjab. In his response, Hamza said that Article 63-A’s interpretation (related to disqualification on defection) was not applicable to that election.
The LHC had also imposed a Rs100,000 fine each on Hamza and Punjab government for failing to submit the replies on time. The response said that the chief minister elections were held on April 16, while the SC gave the interpretation of Article 63-A on May 17; hence the SC could not govern that election.
He requested to dismiss the plea of Munir Ahmed ‘with costs’ of challenging his appointment as CM.
Hamza had secured 197 votes to become the chief executive of Punjab, but after the verdict by Supreme Court, he lost the majority as 25 dissident MPAs of PTI were de-seated.
