Global resources in danger; World population reaches over 8 billion

On Tuesday, the United Nations shared an alarming news regarding the world population. According to the statistics, the overall population of the world has grown to over 8 billion. The rapid surge in population means that basic resources like food, water, and energy will start to shrink.

The current situation is daunting for many nations, especially the African states. Around 738 million people are living without basic necessities in sub-Saharan Africa. According to the Institute for Economics and Peace, the population will rise by 95 per cent by the time we reach mid-century.

The middle-income Asian countries contributed 700 million people since 2011 to the population. Only India added around 180 million people. The United States, Europe, and Japan have seen a decline in the birth rate.

UN has projected that the growth rate of the world has fallen by one per cent, which means that the world population will touch 10.4 billion in 2080 and maintain that level till 2100.
